The Leak Comes First, Always

AC Gas Refilling in Dubai, Minus the Racket Find the Leak. Fix It. Then Refill by Weight.

AC gas charging in Dubai has a dirty open secret: most refills are sold to systems that needed a repair, and the gas quietly exits through the same hole within months. AC Pro Dubai refuses to play. Every low-refrigerant call starts with a pressure test and electronic leak detection, the leak gets repaired and guaranteed, and only then is the system evacuated and recharged with R32 or R410A measured on calibrated scales. It costs slightly more than a cowboy top-up and roughly a third of what three cowboy top-ups cost.

The Right Way

How a Proper Refrigerant Visit Runs

Refrigerant refill Dubai wide is a twenty-minute con or a two-hour engineering job. These six stages are the difference, and skipping any of them is how the con works.

Pressure Test and History

Gauges confirm what the system holds against nameplate, and your description of when cooling faded dates the leak. A system empty in weeks has a different hole than one fading over two summers.

Electronic Leak Detection

A heated-diode detector walks every joint, coil and valve, and nitrogen pressurisation flushes out the shy leaks. The hiss gets found, marked and photographed before anyone discusses money.

The Repair, Guaranteed

Flare joints remade, valve cores swapped, corroded sections cut out and brazed: whatever the fix, it carries the 90-day guarantee, because a refill without a repair is a subscription.

Deep Vacuum, Held

The circuit is evacuated to remove air and moisture, then the vacuum must hold: the stage cowboys skip entirely, and the reason their refills murder compressors slowly. Moisture plus refrigerant brews acid.

Charged by Weight

R32 or R410A goes in on calibrated scales to the gram against the nameplate figure, not by gauge-feel on a hot afternoon. Overcharge harms exactly as surely as undercharge; scales are the only honesty.

Performance Verified

Supply air temperature, superheat and pressures recorded post-charge and handed over. The numbers prove the cure, and they become the baseline that catches any future leak years earlier.

Know Your Gas

R22, R410A and R32: What Your System Drinks

Three refrigerants cover nearly every AC in this city, and which one yours uses changes the economics of every decision.

R22: The Veteran on Borrowed Time

Systems installed before roughly 2013 mostly run R22, now phased down globally with prices climbing every season. It still works, we still stock it, and small top-ups on tight systems remain defensible. What changed is the arithmetic of big losses: a major R22 leak on a twelve-year-old unit is usually the system announcing retirement.

Our standing advice for R22 owners: repair genuine faults, decline conversions, and budget for replacement on your schedule rather than August’s. When the compressor eventually votes, the installation team quotes modern R32 equipment the same day, and the running-cost drop softens the goodbye.

R410A and R32: The Working Present

R410A powered the last decade of installations: efficient, stable, and demanding on workmanship because it runs at pressures that punish sloppy joints. R32 is the current standard, cooling harder per kilogram with a lower environmental footprint, and it is what most new UAE equipment ships with.

Both demand exactly the discipline this page describes: deep vacuum, charge by weight, no mixing, no improvisation. A technician who cannot tell you which gas your system takes without reading the plate is telling you something more important than the gauge ever will.

Standards

Why Our Refills Stay Refilled

AC gas top up work is where this industry hides its worst habits. Six of ours, in the open.

No Refill Without a Test

Policy, not preference: we do not sell gas into unexamined systems, even when asked nicely, even in August. A third of low-gas calls turn out to need cleaning, not refrigerant, and finding that out costs less than a refill.

Licensed Handling Throughout

Recovery, storage and charging follow licensed practice: venting refrigerant to the sky is illegal, lazy and absurdly common. Recovered gas leaves in tagged cylinders, and the paperwork exists whether anyone ever asks for it or not.

Scales on Every Van

Calibrated charging scales travel with every crew as standard kit. Gauge-feel charging on a 45 degree afternoon misjudges routinely, and the compressor pays the estimate’s interest.

Nitrogen for the Shy Leaks

Slow leaks hide from soap bubbles and casual detection: nitrogen pressurisation with electronic sniffing finds the ones that empty a system over a season. Ten extra minutes, entire categories of repeat visit prevented.

Photos of the Culprit

The leak point gets photographed before and after repair, into your file and your WhatsApp. Landlords, insurers and your own scepticism all deserve better than a described hiss.

The Honest No

Some systems should not be refilled: corroded coils weeping at multiple points, compressors already acid-damaged, veterans one loss from the end. We price the truth beside the wish and let you choose with numbers.

Heat Makes Gas Problems Louder

Dubai summers amplify every refrigerant fault: pressures rise with ambient temperature, marginal charge that limped through winter collapses into warm air by June, and undersized charge forces compressors to run hotter and longer exactly when the weather is already punishing them. Half the leak calls of the year arrive in the first six hot weeks, generally traced to joints that had whispered all spring.

Coastal districts add their own tax: salt air corrodes coil fins and pipe joints faster in Marina and JBR than in Mirdif, which is why our coastal leak repairs lean on brazing over mechanical fixes and why coil-protection advice appears on invoices there. Geography is a maintenance variable; ignoring it is a repeat-business strategy.

Refrigerant Honesty

Four Truths the Top-Up Trade Hopes You Never Learn

A short education that pays for itself the next time any technician reaches for a cylinder.

Gas Does Not Wear Out

Refrigerant neither degrades nor depletes in a sealed system; the same kilograms could circulate for the unit’s whole life. Every gram that leaves does so through a hole, and every routine top-up you have ever been sold was a leak repair someone declined to perform. This one paragraph is the most valuable consumer knowledge in the entire AC trade.

The corollary: an honest company’s refill volume should be low and shrinking per customer, because repaired systems stop needing them. Ours is, and the trend line is the proof we are proudest of.

Undercharge Tortures Compressors

A system 20 percent low does not cool 20 percent worse; it cools erratically while the compressor runs longer, hotter and lubricated worse, aging in fast-forward. The AED 300 refill deferred becomes the AED 2,000 compressor conversation a summer or two later, and the connection is invisible until the file shows it.

This is why low-gas symptoms deserve same-week attention rather than a spot on the someday list, and why our leak visits book faster than general maintenance.

The Vacuum Stage Is Sacred

Air and moisture in a refrigerant circuit form acids that etch windings and bearings from the inside, a slow chemical murder no one witnesses. The deep vacuum before charging removes both, takes twenty-plus minutes done properly, and is the stage most visibly absent from the twenty-minute refill.

Watch for the pump, or ask to see the vacuum reading hold. Companies proud of the stage will show you instantly; the others will discover urgent reasons to be finished.

Cheap Gas Exists for Bad Reasons

Counterfeit and blended refrigerants circulate in every discount supply chain, running wrong pressures and occasionally cooking compressors outright. Our cylinders come sealed from authorised distributors with batch paperwork, cost more, and go into your system unmixed.

If a quote undercuts the market by half, the savings live somewhere: usually inside the cylinder, sometimes in the skipped vacuum, occasionally in both. The system always finds out; the invoice just arrives later wearing a different name.

Know Your Enemy

Where Dubai Systems Spring Their Leaks

A decade of leak detection in this city produces a map. These four locations account for most of the refrigerant we are ever asked to replace, and knowing them helps you judge any diagnosis you are given.

Flare Joints Loosened by Vibration

The flared connections where copper pipework meets the outdoor unit sit millimetres from a compressor that vibrates through every running hour. Over three or four Dubai summers that vibration works the nut fractionally loose or fatigues the flare face itself, and a weep begins that no eye will ever catch. It is the single most common leak point we log.

The repair is also the cheapest on the list: the joint is cut back, reflared with a proper tool, torqued to specification and bubble-tested before a gram of new gas goes in. Ten minutes of skilled work ends a leak that had been quietly billing you for years, and the joint gets rechecked at every later visit because history is the best predictor we have.

Coils Eaten by Coastal Air

Homes near the water, from Marina towers to Jumeirah villas, feed their condenser coils a steady diet of salt-laden humidity. The result is formicary corrosion: pinholes finer than a hair that spread through the copper like tunnels through an anthill. One sealed pinhole simply hands the pressure to its neighbours.

This is the leak type where honesty matters most, because a badly corroded coil cannot be patched profitably. We will show you the detector response across the coil face and price the coil replacement against the unit’s age, then let the arithmetic make the decision with you. Owners who choose repair get the finding photographed for their records; owners who choose replacement get the old unit’s gas recovered in line with UAE environment ministry rules rather than vented to the sky.

Service Valves and Schrader Cores

The small access valves technicians connect gauges to are themselves a leak source, especially after years of repeated top-up visits. Each connection stresses the tiny spring-loaded core, and a tired core bleeds gas so slowly that the loss hides inside seasonal performance changes. Systems with long top-up histories leak here more often than anywhere else, which carries its own irony: the visits sold to replace lost gas were quietly creating the next loss.

We test every core with the detector as standard, replace suspect ones for a few dirhams while the system is open, and fit brass caps with fresh seals. It is unglamorous work that closes one of the trade’s most overlooked escape routes.

Debts Left by the Installer

Some leaks are born on day one: brazed joints made without nitrogen flowing inside the pipe, pipe runs stretched past the manufacturer’s limit, or flares cut with a blunt tool. The system loses gas from its first month, and the owner inherits a problem that was invoiced as a completed installation.

When our detector traces a leak to original workmanship we say so in the report, because the distinction matters for warranty conversations with developers and landlords. A written finding from a licensed contractor is considerably harder to wave away than a tenant’s complaint.

Client Stories

What Our Clients Say

Three refrigerant jobs, three different endings, one method.

“Two companies topped up our bedroom unit three times in a year. AC Pro found a weeping flare joint in twenty minutes with the detector, remade it, charged by the scales, and fourteen months later the pressures they left on my WhatsApp still match. The subscription is cancelled.”
Priyanka L.Apartment Owner, Silicon Oasis
“They talked me out of refilling my fifteen-year-old R22 unit and showed me why: the coil was weeping at four points. The replacement quote sat beside the repair quote, honest numbers on both, and the new system’s DEWA difference is real. Rare, that honesty.”
Bassam T.Villa Owner, Umm Suqeim
“Warm air on a Thursday, leak found behind the service valve Friday morning, repaired, vacuumed and recharged before lunch with the old gas recovered into a tagged bottle. The invoice listed grams and dirhams per kilo. First company that ever showed me the scales.”

Gas Questions

AC Gas Refilling Dubai: Straight Answers

The ten questions every refrigerant visit hears, answered without a cylinder in hand.

How often should an AC need gas topping up?

Never, and this single fact saves more money than any discount ever will. Refrigerant circulates in a sealed loop; it is not fuel and is not consumed. An AC that needs gas has a leak, full stop, and topping up without repairing the leak simply schedules the next top-up at interest. When a company offers routine annual gas refills as a service plan, they are renting you your own refrigerant. Our first job on every low-gas call is finding the hole, and the recharge comes after it is closed.

How much does AC gas refilling cost in Dubai?

Honest ranges: a full R32 or R410A recharge on a residential split typically runs AED 150 to 450 depending on system size and how much refrigerant the leak spared, while R22 for older systems costs more per kilogram as supplies tighten. Add the leak repair itself, commonly AED 150 to 600 for accessible joints and valve cores. Every quote itemises gas by weight at the current rate on the cost page, because gas sold by vibes is the oldest trick in this trade.

How long does a leak test and refill visit take?

A pressure test with electronic leak detection runs 30 to 45 minutes on a split system; accessible repairs such as flare joints, valve cores or a corroded connection add another 30 to 60; then evacuation and charging by weight takes a further 40 minutes done properly, because the vacuum stage cannot be rushed without trapping moisture in the circuit. Plan for two to three hours total on a standard job, and be suspicious of anyone finished in twenty minutes.

Is R22 still available for my old AC?

Available, increasingly expensive, and on a clock: R22 is phased down under the Montreal Protocol and each summer the price per kilogram climbs. We stock it for genuine needs and quote it transparently, but for any R22 system with a significant leak we run the replacement maths beside the repair, because pouring premium gas into a corroded veteran is often the most expensive kindness on offer. See the repair-or-replace guidance before deciding.

Can you convert my R22 system to run on newer gas?

Rarely worth it, and we say so even though the conversion invoice would be handsome. Retrofitting means new oil, seals, sometimes the compressor, and the result is an old system running slightly worse on different gas. The honest comparison is conversion cost versus a modern R32 unit whose efficiency repays its price within a few summers; conversions win that contest so seldom that we quote them mainly as a courtesy benchmark.

What are the signs of an overcharged AC?

Overcharging is the quieter cousin of the leak problem, usually caused by top-up-happy servicing: symptoms include high discharge pressure, a compressor that runs hot and loud, ice where it should never form, and cooling that worsens after a refill that promised the opposite. It is genuinely harmful, strains the compressor toward early failure, and the fix is measured recovery back to nameplate charge. Charging by gauge feel instead of scales is how systems end up here.

The leak is inside a wall. What are my options?

Concealed leaks offer three honest paths: precision-locate with nitrogen and electronic detection, then open the wall surgically at the marked point; reroute new copper outside the wall along a agreed path with tidy trunking; or, on ageing systems, put the money toward replacement instead. Costs and disruption differ sharply, so we price at least two options side by side and photograph everything for landlords or insurers. What we refuse is the fourth path: quarterly top-ups pretending the wall is not whispering.

Could the problem be something other than low gas?

Frequently, and it is why diagnosis precedes gauges-off conclusions: dirty coils and clogged filters imitate low refrigerant convincingly, both starving airflow until the coil ices and cooling fades. The pressure test tells the truth in minutes. Walk through the other suspects on the AC not cooling guide before assuming the expensive answer; roughly a third of our low-gas callouts leave needing cleaning rather than refrigerant.

Is there a warranty on the leak repair and refill?

Yes: repaired joints and fittings carry our standard 90-day workmanship guarantee, and the refill is guaranteed against loss through the repaired point for the same period. If pressure drops again through our repair, the return visit, the fix and the replacement gas all cost you nothing. What the guarantee cannot cover is a second, separate leak elsewhere on an ageing circuit, which is exactly why the initial test maps the whole system rather than stopping at the first hiss.

Are DIY refill cans from the internet a real option?

They are a real way to injure yourself and finish off the AC, so no. The cans ship with the wrong gas for many UAE systems, no vacuum stage, no scales, and enough pressure to reward confidence with frostbite. Refrigerant handling is licensed work for boring, physical reasons. The AED 89 can plus the damage it causes routinely costs more than the professional visit it was avoiding, and we have the repair invoices to prove it.
